REFLECTION

Studying feature story aspects has been an enlightening experience, providing valuable insights into the intricacies of narrative journalism. One notable aspect is the importance of crafting a compelling lead that captivates the reader's attention from the outset, setting the tone for the entire piece. Understanding the significance of a strong narrative arc has been crucial; it serves as the backbone, ensuring coherence and engagement throughout the feature story. Moreover, delving into the art of character development and scene-setting has emphasized the need for vivid descriptions and human connection to resonate with the audience. I've also come to appreciate the nuanced balance between factual information and storytelling techniques, as features demand a unique blend of journalistic integrity and creative flair. Evaluating my own writing in light of these aspects has highlighted areas for improvement, pushing me to refine my storytelling skills and enhance my ability to connect with readers on a deeper level. This exploration of feature story aspects has not only deepened my understanding of narrative journalism but has also inspired a commitment to honing the craft of weaving compelling and impactful stories.   

 

SUMMARY

            Based on the lecture's discussion and accompanying article titled ”Features Story Aspects" it was emphasized that student teachers can enrich their grasp of news writing language through a comprehensive analysis of the session materials. This involves scrutinizing the headline, lead or opening paragraph, tone, voice, language, vocabulary, sourcing, credibility, and the overall organization of ideas. Additionally, the focus is placed on making observations and insights related to grammar, including the proper usage of verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and conditional sentences. In the section dedicated to vocabulary usage, student teachers are encouraged to document new words or phrases encountered during the session, providing their definitions and incorporating them into example sentences. Each log entry concludes with an overall assessment of the session, highlighting valuable takeaways and areas of confusion or difficulty. Moreover, students are urged to set specific goals for improvement, such as practicing the use of passive voice in upcoming writing assignments, integrating new vocabulary into their blog posts, and addressing any ongoing challenges in language preparation.
