Review Film: A man Called Otto, image a grumpy man but good hearted (2022)

Tom Hanks again plays his role very impressively in the film A man called Otto as the main character named Otto. Adapted from the novel by Frederick Backman entitled A man Called Ove. This film, which was directed by Marc Forster, premiered on the big screen in Indonesia on January 13, 2023. Since the first day of its release, this film has received the audience's attention with its simple storyline but left a deep impression.

           Otto Anderson is described as a grumpy old man. He was always bothered by little things. Many things distract him. Therefore, don't be surprised if you hear Otto Nagging throughout the 126-minute film.

            Tom Hanks seems to have succeeded in fully becoming Otto in this film. He comes with a very perfectionist character. Otto can be very annoyed by little things, such as parking his bike in the wrong place, or the mistake of his neighbors in disposing of plastic waste or bottles that are not in the right place.

            Because of these things, he was labeled a grunt by his neighbors. Otto is also lazy to be friendly and greet his neighbors properly. In Otto's mind, everything has been in chaos since Sonya, his beloved wife, left him due to a heartbreaking incident. This also led to Otto always trying to take his own life. Otto counted 4 times try to commit suicide but all failed.

            This film will make the audience wonder, where is the sad part? Because since the beginning of the film, there are many play stickle which invite laughter, at least before heading to the end of the film. Tom Hanks is able to package his role with a mix. He made the audience feel what Otto felt with Otto's frustrated attitude, who had no passion for life, but packaged it with hilarious acting.

            Otto didn't want to imagine himself growing old any longer without Sonya. He kept repeating his memories of meeting Sonya. Even every word Sonya or he said since the first time they met .A Man Called Otto invites the audience to see and appreciate the small moments.

            Otto's life is for Sonya, that is the strong reason Otto tries to commit suicide because Sonya is no longer in Otto's life, as Otto himself said "I live for Sonya"

            Film A Man Called Otto managed to get the audience to pay attention and always see the little things of the people around us. That no matter how difficult the situation, there will be someone who wants to help. Otto looks like he is struggling to change his bad memory with the good he has passed on to others. As Marisol said, humans will always need other people to heal.
