REFLECTION
I
had explored the concept of peer feedback in language learning logs within the
context of EFL writing education, prompting me to inquire about its application
to news writing style. As this area was unfamiliar to me, I recognized the need
to delve deeper into the topic, especially considering its relevance to my
studies in news, features, and editorial courses. Through my research, I
discovered that peer feedback for news writing style typically involves
evaluating criteria such as headline, lead, tone and voice, language features
and vocabulary, quotes, and attribution, with ratings ranging from excellent to
inadequate on a rubric. This newfound knowledge has expanded my understanding,
highlighting the significance of adhering to specific criteria in both news gathering
and news writing. Recognizing these criteria is crucial as they contribute to
effective news writing by guiding the writer in structuring content
appropriately and taking the necessary steps to produce high-quality news
articles, a skill set valuable in a professional setting.
SUMMARY
In the field of writing education, English as a foreign language (EFL)
plays a crucial role by serving as a key to effective global communication and
participation. EFL instruction focuses on developing grammatical, vocabulary,
and stylistic skills, enabling non-native speakers to express themselves
clearly and engage in academic, professional, and cultural contexts worldwide.
Beyond linguistic proficiency, EFL writing education nurtures critical thinking
and creativity, empowering learners to craft persuasive and culturally
appropriate written pieces. Ultimately, mastering EFL writing equips
individuals with the necessary tools to navigate an interconnected world,
fostering a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives and enhancing their
ability to contribute meaningfully to the global discourse.
