The course has highlighted the real-world relevance of these skills, emphasizing their impact on writing proficiency, vocabulary development, cultural awareness, critical thinking, and digital literacy. As EFL students, this course serves to enhance both language and writing abilities, which can prove beneficial in professional settings, particularly for refining news writing skills. Personally, the most significant takeaway has been the practical application of journalism skills, leading to more structured and well-organized writing. Given my limited knowledge of journalism, further exploration of this course will undoubtedly aid my future endeavors, ensuring the practical application of these acquired skills.

SUMMARY

Based on the lecture's insights from the article "Introduction to the News, Feature, and Editorial Writing Course," it was highlighted that news writing aids EFL student teachers in keeping abreast of current global events, facilitating engaging discussions with their students. Feature writing, on the other hand, provides a comprehensive understanding of students' diverse backgrounds. Editorial writing, which focuses on opinion-based content, fosters critical thinking and persuasive writing skills. News writing contributes to language proficiency, grammar, and vocabulary development while adhering to specific writing styles. Feature writing incorporates descriptive language and storytelling techniques to captivate students' attention. Editorial writing addresses social and ethical concerns, nurturing a sense of social responsibility. In the process of composing news articles, it is crucial to gather information, assess sources, and present facts impartially. Feature writing involves extensive research and analysis, fostering critical thinking and analytical skills. News writing also promotes digital literacy by integrating multimedia elements and online resources, enabling EFL student teachers to navigate digital platforms proficiently.

LEARNING STRATEGIES

First I search for relevant e-books or articles related to the topic. Subsequently, I carefully peruse the materials to understand their contents thoroughly. Then, I focus on identifying new words, delving into their pronunciation, part of speech, Indonesian translations, definitions, example sentences, and synonyms. Afterward, I select and note down the key points, gathering my thoughts to expound on the topic in my own words. Following this, I organize the crucial points and my comprehension of the subject matter into a coherent paragraph. Then, I review the paragraph, emphasizing corrections in punctuation, spelling, grammar, and word selection, while ensuring sentence clarity and coherence. Next, I arrange my writing in the appropriate format, refining its structure and presentation. Lastly, I publish my essay on my personal blog, conducting a final check to ensure the format is accurate and easily comprehensible.
