REFLECTION
As
I am unfamiliar with the new news blogging or blog post format, I realize the
need to explore the realm of learning English writing through news writing.
This novel format seems distinct from other writing forms previously discussed,
incorporating unique grammatical elements in the learning logs, facilitating a
deeper understanding of grammar. Acquiring knowledge about learning English
writing through news writing has broadened my comprehension of news
interpretation and the components integral to the news blogging and blog post
formats. The key takeaway for me has been the relevance of this learning in
honing my writing skills, particularly in the realm of news writing. This
newfound understanding holds significance for my professional growth, allowing
me to appreciate the value of news blogging and blog post formats, as well as
their utility in facilitating learning through blogs. Furthermore, I have come
to recognize the applicability of this knowledge within the learning process.
SUMMARY
Based
on the lecture's discussion and accompanying article titled "Learning
English Writing through News Writing - Media Landscape [News Blogging/Blog
Posts Format]," it was emphasized that student teachers can enrich their
grasp of news writing language through a comprehensive analysis of the session
materials. This involves scrutinizing the headline, lead or opening paragraph,
tone, voice, language, vocabulary, sourcing, credibility, and the overall
organization of ideas. Additionally, the focus is placed on making observations
and insights related to grammar, including the proper usage of verb tenses,
subject-verb agreement, and conditional sentences. In the section dedicated to
vocabulary usage, student teachers are encouraged to document new words or
phrases encountered during the session, providing their definitions and
incorporating them into example sentences. Each log entry concludes with an
overall assessment of the session, highlighting valuable takeaways and areas of
confusion or difficulty. Moreover, students are urged to set specific goals for
improvement, such as practicing the use of passive voice in upcoming writing
assignments, integrating new vocabulary into their blog posts, and addressing
any ongoing challenges in language preparation.
I search for relevant e-books or articles related to the topic. Subsequently, I carefully peruse the materials to understand their contents thoroughly. Then, I focus on identifying new words, delving into their pronunciation, part of speech, Indonesian translations, definitions, example sentences, and synonyms. Afterward, I select and note down the key points, gathering my thoughts to expound on the topic in my own words. Following this, I organize the crucial points and my comprehension of the subject matter into a coherent paragraph. Then, I review the paragraph, emphasizing corrections in punctuation, spelling, grammar, and word selection, while ensuring sentence clarity and coherence. Next, I arrange my writing in the appropriate format, refining its structure and presentation. Lastly, I publish my essay on my personal blog, conducting a final check to ensure the format is accurate and easily comprehensible.
